Registration opens March 1, 2019

Follow these steps

Step 1

Get accepted to WSU and pay $200 admission deposit

Congratulations on becoming a Coug! We’re so excited you’re joining our family! If you haven’t already done so, accept your WSU admission offer by paying the $200 tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions. You cannot register for Summer Advantage or Alive! without it!

Step 2

Complete FAFSA and WSU financial aid forms

Although the priority funding deadline for Financial Aid is February 15th, you may still be eligible for funding to help with Summer Advantage fees. Apply for financial aid now! Regardless of whether or not you receive Financial Aid for this summer, you will still owe all tuition and fees if you attend Summer Advantage.

Step 3

Register for Summer Advantage

To register for Summer Advantage you will need to complete and submit your online registration. We will then bill your student account for tuition, fees, and housing/dining costs.

Step 4

Register for Alive! Orientation

Alive! is a three-day orientation session for new students. As a Summer Advantage student you will get a more in-depth knowledge of the university during your five weeks on campus, but Alive! orientation allows you to register for fall semester courses and work with a faculty advisor.

This program is NOT part of Summer Advantage, but must be taken before Fall semester and Summer Advantage.

Register for Alive here. You must take either Session 5, which falls immediately before Summer Advantage move-in, or any session PRIOR to Session 5. You cannot take an Alive! Session that is during Summer Advantage. If you find that you are unable to get into the Alive session of your choice, please contact us at 509-335-3530 and we’ll try to help.

Step 5

Take WSU’s ALEKS Math Placement Exam

All new students coming to the Washington State University are required to take the on-line ALEKS Math Placement Exam for Fall 2019 placement into math classes. It is important to start early on this as you can practice and retake the exam.

Step 6

Take the Writing Placement Exam proctored online through Global Campus

You have the option to take the WSU Writing Placement Exam online before you attend Alive! and before you attend Summer Advantage. Taking this online before you arrive allows you to take the exam in the comfort of your home, gives you two hours to complete, and allows your Alive! Experience to not feel as rushed. You do need to take this exam two weeks prior to attending Alive and Summer Advantage, and it does take two days to sign up, so please be sure to start your planning early!

For instructions on how to accomplish this, please visit the Writing Placement Center website. For questions, please contact the Writing Placement Center at writing.program@wsu.edu or by calling 509-335-7959.

Step 7

Attend Alive! Orientation

All incoming students are required to attend an Alive! session prior to the start of Summer Advantage. It allows you to register for your Fall courses, gets you your Cougar Card, and gets you ready for school. We recommend Summer Advantage students sign up for Alive! Session 5, June 20-22. You can move into your Summer Advantage housing after session 5 is over!

If you did not take the Writing Placement Exam online ahead of time, students are required to take the WSU Writing Placement Exam during Alive! to determine the best course(s) that they need to successfully enter the writing-rich curriculum at WSU. If you have questions, please contact the Writing Placement Center at 509-335-5898 or writing.placement@wsu.edu.

Step 8

Check into Northside Hall

Student Athletes will be able to check into Northside Hall on June 16.  Traditional students will be able to check in on June 21 at 3 p.m.

Step 9

Pay for Tuition and Fees by (July 21st)

WSU does not mail billing statements for tuition and fees. Log on to myWSU to check and pay your balance for tuition and fees. Choose the link “Finances” on the left-hand side of the page. Charges will appear once we have enrolled you in the Summer Advantage courses. Your payment for tuition and fees is due (date coming soon). They won’t have access to your account as that is private information that WSU cannot share with anyone other than the student without written permission from the student.
